July 7, 2006
And Contact information for home owners

Leslie Davis Potter

District Director
Congressman Rush Holt

Mayor Sworen  -

Congressman Holt has asked me to share with you that the disaster declaration for NJ came through this afternoon. Individual assistance (to individuals and small businesses) was granted for Hunterdon, Mercer and Warren Counties. Public assistance (assistance to state and local governments and some emergency response non-profits) was granted to Hunterdon, Mercer, Sussex and Warren Counties.

The disaster number is FEMA-1653-DR

I spoke with FEMA this afternoon and they have not yet identified where the walk-in registration sites will be. However, people can register by phone or the internet.

·        1-800-621-FEMA (3362).

·        TTY 1-800-462-7585 for people with speech or hearing disabilities.

·        Apply for assistance online: http://www.fema.gov/assistance/index.shtm

·        FEMA home page http://www.fema.gov/index.shtm

Here is some basic information to give to your residents:

Register with FEMA using the toll-free number or the web site. 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or www.FEMA.gov. You will be asked general information about your income, insurance, and the damage to your house or business. Renters are also eligible to seek assistance. You will be given an application number, which will be your reference number. Write it down, you will need it frequently.

A FEMA inspector will call and arrange a visit to your damaged property.

In the mail, you will receive a Small Business Administration packet. Complete the application whether or not you intend to seek a loan. The application will qualify you for many services and does not obligate you to borrowing anything. In fact, depending on your income, it may immediately qualify you for a grant.

If we can answer any questions, please contact me at the numbers below. Over the weekend, please feel free to use my cell 609 462-1608.
