FRENCHTOWN

Celebrates the Acquisition of Plessey Field
with a special Day of Celebration

Plessey
Field
Dedication
If you haven't heard by now, Frenchtown has bought Plessey Field, which is that big field opposite the Frenchtown Elementary School on Harrison Street.  This is an important event in Frenchtown history, and the Lions Club, along with many other local organizations, is clebrating the event with a party.

The party will be a day long event and will be held on Saturday, September 26.  Included in this event will be a 5K run; the Frenchtown Elementary School Band, the Delaware Valley Regional High School Band, the 519 Extension and Bandito will be on hand to supply the music.  Games from darts to three-legged races will test everyone's skills.

"There will be something for everyone," wrote Karen DeLisle in the Delaware Valley News. "From puppet shows to crafters to the American Legion's beer garden."

Of course, there will also be fireworks.

Mayor Ron Sworen said several state leaders including Governer Whitman have been invited.  Whitman declined the invitation, but he's hoping Senator Willam Schluter, Assembly members Connie Myers and Leonard Lance and Congressman Michael Pappas can fit an appearance in their schedules

There will also be some surprises...

Information:

Taken from the Delaware Valley News, August 27, 1998:
"The town acquired the eight-acre parcel of Harrison Street in May under the state's Green Acre program.  It was officially renamed Old Frenchtown Field at a council meeting in July.

Throughout the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, the field was host to carnivals, dances with big bands, semi-pro baseball games and even Frenchtown high school's football team.  The field had been part of the ceramics factory property."
